New Side Project – PartyMuzik

May 20, 2011

^ This was a proposal picture for a planned Israeli club that electrically only runs on the kinetic energy of the people dancing.  How dope is that????  Anyway, I’m happy to announce a new side-project I just started working on – a site dedicated to providing you party music in the quickest and most convenient method possible.  Check out PartyMuzik as it will be updated daily!  Here are the first ten songs posted on it to pique your interest:

Mayer Hawthorne – Impressions (Free Covers EP)

May 14, 2011

Mayer dropped this one the other day for free – listen to his ELO cover I posted the other day if you need to know what’s really good.  Six songs on this one with covers from Chromeo to the Isley Brothers.  This is the spring music you need in your life.

Anyways I’m locked down for the next four days catching up on all the studying I’ve supposed to have done over the last two months, but I know the crew will hold it down in my absence.  Special shoutout to M dot A Mang, who will thankfully be posting music here that has a shelf life longer than three or four days.  Rumor also has it that Kelly has been turning the wheels on the long-awaited Big Boi concert review and that the initial draft was so good that he’s already sold the movie rights to it.

Now that I have the tiniest bit of capital, I’m going to be making some major changes to this site and finally start rolling out the master plan that’s been hatching since last December.  I’m also gonna start mixing again – hoping to put out a remastered edition of Yonkers 2 Ibiza and put out Y2I2 along with some other silly summer mixes.  Big plans, y’all.

Mayer Hawthorne – Mr. Blue Sky (ELO Cover)

May 9, 2011

B3Sci just killin it today.  Who knew he could kill it even without the falsetto?  Does that make any sense musically?  Whatever, this is too good to care.  I’ve never really listened to ELO but this is real dope.  I feel like this could be the closing credits of a Farrlley Brothers comedy (where they’re showing the montages of what happens to everyone).  IS THAT AN ACCORDION AT THE END??  What is that??  Impressions EP coming soon???  Get A Strange Arragement right now if you haven’t.

You realize this one is a summer anthem like ten seconds in.  Something about the Capo’s awk flow is perfect for these beats.  When is Pete Rock coming out with something new?  Shoutout to Girl Talk.

Nardwuar

May 8, 2011

Straight out the muthafuckin slums dungeons* of rap.  British Columbia what’s good?  This dude is a huge clown, but does a ton of research for each interview and gives the artists gifts that usually leaves them stunned and gets them talking about their past.  I’ve only watched his interviews with rappers and he has at least a dozen worth watching.  This one especially is hilarious because Curren$y is such a clown in juxtaposition to his ultra-serious mic persona.

Single Review: Lady Gaga – Judas

May 7, 2011

O, so this is why ppl hate Kanye.  I suppose that peppering in arbitrary symbolism to your videos doesn’t in fact give you “artistic integrity.”  Wait, you do know that being different doesn’t make you necessarily “good” right?  Especially when your music sounds exactly like all of the other music that’s out right now?  At the end of the day you’re still a pop artist.  I was gonna go on this huge rant about America’s obsession with stardom especially in the social media age and our obsession with the “it” factor and our collective increasing belief that we all have “it” despite our decreasing talent and work ethic, but it’s not even worth it.  I guess I’m just mad that she’s being rewarded for making a retread of an older single simply because she called it “Judas” and threw a bunch of crosses into the video.

Shit’s catchy tho.

4/10.

Tyler, the Creator – Tron Cat

May 7, 2011

So Goblin leaked and it’s already the most divisive album of the year.  Will you like it?  Depends…are you 17?  I like Tyler and I haven’t understood all of his backlash; yes he’s obnoxious and overstated and desperate for attention but his talent is clearly there – for fuck’s sake he rapped, produced and directed the video for Yonkers.  Unfortunately, he now seems a little too obsessed with everyone’s interpretation of him; the album is bookended by “serious jawns” and one song even has a disclaimer before it.  By the number of >6 minute songs (& one instrumental near the end!), it’s pretty obvious that he tried to make a classic here, but at this point in time he doesn’t have the composure nor subtlety to do that.  As a talking point I actually immensely enjoyed the production on this album & I think the OF crew really does have a future because they can be carried by the sound of two elite, completely original beatmakers (Tyler & LeftBrain).

So yeah, the album is pretty much a combination of serial killer fantasies and “But I’m actually deep” introspective tracks, and because I’m me I obviously prefer the former, although I wish his adoration of Eminem wasn’t so obvious on every track.  “Tron Cat” makes you forget all of this bullshit and enjoy Tyler for the reason you got into him in the first place.

Electric Zoo / Identity Lineups Released

May 5, 2011

I mentioned this last night, but I figured this deserved its own post.  EZ is three days this year and Identity is a new nationwide electronic tour with a lineup that’s an awesome complement to EZ’s lineup without much overlap.  Absolutely planning on going to both.  Dates and the preliminary lineup for Identity as well as ticket prices for EZ after the jump.
