Still Alive

February 28, 2011

Damn yo, it’s been a hot minute.  It feels weird being now “fully unemployed” rather than “unemployed and in the pursuit of studying for a meaningless benchmark that will ultimately have no effect on my job status.”  I’m not mad tho.  I did pass the test, BTW.  Next one up mid-May.

Anyways, I’m off to Jersey for a few days, but I’ll drop some whiiite thoughts when I get back – I’ve been so chained to this thing that it feels like I’ve been gone much longer than a week.

What’s been in rotation for me lately:

Toro Y Moi – Underneath The Pine

Radiohead – King of Limbs

Domo Genesis – Rolling Papers

Earl Sweatshirt – EARL

And yeah obvi the Toro Y Moi is a heater.  Been listenin to some jazz too but I don’t even know how to incorporate that into this ignorant-ass blog.  Sometimes I think I’m only perpetuating music getting “worse.”

Speaking of which, the long-awaited Yonkers 2 Ibiza coming soon.  Hopefully back by Wednesday.

Edit:  Oh, and Knicks better.  Lol Jeff Green Lol

Wippenberg – Phoenix

February 23, 2011

Wippenberg is definitely a force to be reckon with in both the trance & house music scene. Starting off back in the olden days as pure old school trance and slowly transforming his style into tech trance into house music. Normally, that kind of transformation could piss me off but wippenberg did it right. His tracks are bangin and definitely get the crowd going wild every time I hear a DJ spin one of his tracks. He just keeps releasing tracks that are fire! so fuckin get over Sweedish House Mafia and everyone else and show some support for Wippenberg who has been around longer than anyone. This is the first release from his new record label called “Get Wipped!” and is nothing but awesome!

Nuera Feat. Szen – Breathing (Original Mix)

February 23, 2011

I don’t anything about Nuera really, or much about Szen. I just know that they must be fairly new to the trance scene. Szen hasn’t been featured on much but after this track I hope to see her release more. I heard this track on Myon & Shane 54’s Podcast and instantly fell in love. This track is pretty sweet & the chillout version is beautiful.

Whiteroom Feat. Amy Cooper – Someday 2011 (Alex M.O.R.P.H Remix)

February 23, 2011

Original was released way back in 2005, but now has been revived with 2011 remixes that really make this track rememberable. Definitely a new classic. Whiteroom consists of Andrew Beardmore & Adam White, and haven’t really put out much together. Amy Coopers vocals on this is flawless! 4 minutes in gives me the fuckin chills hardcore!  Alex M.O.R.P.H Remix & Orjan Nilsen Remix definitely added major quality to this track.

Earl Sweatshirt- EARL

February 21, 2011

The web has been going nuts since Tyler, The Creator dropped Yonkers.  Tyler, the Creator is apart of the OFWGKTA (odd future, wolf gang kill them all) collective.  The web has been going nuts since Sandwiches was performed by odd future on Jimmy “I will never be relevant” Fallon.

However, before everyone was praising the very good rapper in Tyler, the Creator, there was Earl Sweatshirt.  A 16 year old who rapped so disturbingly, his mom made him move away from Tyler, The Creator so he could remain clean and not take pills and skateboard.  Earl and Tyler’s style reminds me of if Cannibal OX met Necro and decided to focus their style.

EARL is a great album from 2010 that has been slept on.  Dark lyrics, eerie beats, disturbing sounds and most importantly, dope fucking rhymes.  So many rhymes are intricate and pertain to the OFWGKTA family.  I.E. in Yonkers, ” bitches in my room” refers to a member in their crew who is 5’7 and pulls the most chicks.  I hope people take these guys seriously and understand that they are for real and not some fad for hipsters to latch onto.  Anyway here are some dope tracks from Earl Sweatshirt, who is magnificent.

Michael Woods – First Aid

February 21, 2011

I haven’t really been listening to much ignorant house lately, but this one is so fucking obnoxious, rell Deadmau5 esque.  I wonder if they’re going to start using songs like these for montages in movies? What was the last movie that even had a montage?  Do you honestly think in our lifetime that a film franchise is going to come out that’s as good as Rocky?  #whiiitethoughts.  Oh…um…and here’s his remix of “I Said” from Deadmau5’s latest (as well as the anthemic “No Access”).  Now that everyone has hopped off of Deadmau5’s nuts and onto Avicci and Afrojack, I can safely say I enjoyed that album.  “Michael Woods he made me hot.”  Cheers!

Tritonal Feat. Cristina Soto – Lifted

February 20, 2011

I havn’t been doing much blogging I know…but i’m sick! =(. Anyway, just got my hands on this beauty! Tritonal is a American duo (yayyy) who go by the names of Chad Cisneros and Dave Reed. They have been around for a few years now and are my favorite American trance duo since the legendary Gabriel & Dresden (who sadly split). For the past two years at Electric Zoo, I have filled out the survey for artist requests and every time Tritonal is at the top of my list. Last year I even saw a kid wearing a Tritonal tshirt there and they weren’t even on the lineup, so obviously I’m not the only one. They haven’t even made it to New York yet and I am getting very impatient, I NEED to see them. With their own record label “Air Up There” and their own radio show, they are definitely a name to get yourself familiar with. Their radio show also called “Air Up There” is one of my favorites to listen to, and has the most awesome intro (sign up on itunes for it!) Also their main vocalist they choose to work with Cristina Soto, is an amazing vocalist with a very distinct voice. I love how they just keep making productions with her. While “Lifted” in my opinion isn’t their best work, I still like it, but definitely check out the bonus tracks (Esp “Forgive Me, Forget You)! Their songs and releases have become some of my all time favorites and I always look forward to more. I also know they are supposed to put out a debut album soon, so maybe this does mean Tritonal at Ezoo? I hope! It would be such good exposure! Get on it guys!

Bedouin Soundclash f. Coeur de Pirate – Brutal Hearts

February 20, 2011

For fans of interracial Canadian rock-reggae.  Actually, I’m a big K-OS fan.  If he came out a few years later, he would have rightfully blown up amongst the blogger crowd, but he’s kind of an afterthought now.  He’s about 3000% better than K’Naan.  I saw him open up for Handsome Boy Modeling School (namedrop???!!???) back in the day and he was absolutely fantastic.  His first three albums had some serious fucking songs, and I liked that OC single too.  Shit, he could even rap well.

ANYWAY, found these clowns out of nowhere on the machine of hype.  What you say…Jefferson Airplane meets Lykke Li?  Really enjoyed this one.

Panda Bear – Last Night At The Jetty

February 18, 2011

The new(ish) jawn from ya boy.  Altho certain publications like to consider him the White Jesus, I feel like his voice is definitely an acquired taste and not for everybody.  These songs have the same dreamlike quality as AC, but I feel like they’re not as musically intriguing as the best Animal Collective songs.  All growers tho.  I remember I once called “Comfy in Nautica” the “best song I ever heard”, but I was in no state to drive a car at the time and haven’t felt that way since.  I do owe Person Pitch a listen sometime soon.  Tomboy out April 12th.
