You know, we always forget to realize that musicians and entertainers in general are people too. I completely forgot that Dr. Dre’s son died until it was mentioned in this song, and now I feel a little bit worse about bitching about Detox when Dre was going through some obvious personal problems. So here, we have Eminem pleading to Dre to let Em help him because Dr. Dre “literally saved his life*” many years ago and Em feels like he owes him. And a part of me likes this song, because few rappers are as candid as Eminem and there’s something riveting about music when you know the artist is being completely open and honest about their life.

Single Review: Dr. Dre f. Eminem & Skylar Grey – I Need A Doctor
January 31, 2011Fleet Foxes – Helplessness Blues
January 31, 2011How dope is that cover? Anyways, Fleet Foxes released the debut single for their sophomore album today and its exactly what you’d expect. I’m not sure if the lyrics are too literal or not tho. In any case, the switchup right before three minutes in is what dreams are made of. Included my favorite track form their debut. Quit your job and function as a cog in the That Whiiite machine.
Helplessness Blues (the album) out May 3rd.

Skrillex – Kill Everybody
January 31, 2011I feel a little guilty posting this cause it’s old, but whatever I still love it. Just so much energy and fun. The thing I love most about Skrillex is that he can transform songs seamlessly from electro to dubstep and vice versa, but his overpowering basslines present a unique brand, if you will. Detractors will be quick to call him a one-trick pony, but if you listen to this back-to-back with say, “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites“, you’ll see that he’s more versatile than a healthy amount of electronic artists. Really excited for whatever he’s putting out next.

Steed Lord – Don’t Hurt Love
January 31, 2011Didn’t you hear? Disco is the new shit. I love songs like this. 2012 in 2010, which makes this a time machine, not just any blog. No D/L available for this one.
Update: Posted this one way back when but just had the Soundcloud stream. Here’s the best quality D/L I could find. This has to be one of my favorite 5 tracks I’ve posted here thusfar, along with (off the top of my head) 2, 3, 4 and 5.

The White Panda – Infinite Dream (Katy Perry v. Guru Josh Project)
January 28, 2011DJs: here’s a perfect excuse to put “Infinity” back into your sets. As I’ve said time and time again, the simplest mashups are the best. Also put on Kaskade’s “Teenage Dream” remix.

Classic: Freefall / Cosmic Gate Feat. Jan Johnston – Skydive (I Feel Wonderful)
January 28, 2011Big time classic. One of the songs that got me so into EDM by far. I remember when I went away when I was 10 years old I had a CD with this one on it and was attached to my walkman the whole time. I had no info on the track and had no idea what I was listening to. I mean I was 10 years old who gave a shit then? Now I’ve collected so many versions and remixes of this song over a long period of time and since i’m in such a good mood I figured this would be the perfect classic post. The original Freefall version is by far the best and my favorite. But I do love every version of this song for some reason. Also the JOC remix is crazyyyy I just wish it had the vocals. Excuse the quality on some of these this song is oldddd all are full though & don’t miss the Cosmic Gate versions on the bottom! Jan Johnston is one of the original EDM princesses and still is one of the most respected.

Benny Benassi f. Gary Go – Cinema (Skrillex Remix)
January 28, 2011“I’m still ambivalent about dubstep at this point. I support it as an upcoming genre and think it has a lot of potential*, but at the same time I see it already being exploited by producer X slapping a fat bassline on whatever song he chooses and calling it a remix. And seeing people eat that shit up because dubstep is so “in” right now. I guarantee if you took the next hour to listen to the newest “dubstep” tracks without ever listening to it before, you would be sick of the genre by the end of the hour because most of the songs sound exactly the same.”
– Evan Agovino, 12/8/10
BUT IN 2010 I DIDN’T REALIZE THE BASSLINES COULD BE THIS PHAT. And BTW, after many hours, Skrillex is still wildly entertaining. Just shows that nothing on this blog should be taken that seriously. Highly recommend this one.
