Single Review: Starting Six-Dale Shake Featuring Do Proper, YMTK

May 5, 2011

You know what is whiiite.  Sampling Oasis’s Wonderwall. And that is exactly what Nic Nac does.  In my opinion, Rye has the best verse along with YMTK.  Nic Nac changed up his beat style, which a) shows his versatility and b) shows what he is experimenting with.  Since party rappers all all the rage right now, it’s nice to see Berkeley style get some love (for real go eat a gordo’s burrito, so fucking delicious)  Read the rest of this entry ?

Yo, I feel like I’m mailing this one in a bit.  I’ve recently realized just how fucked I am.  Thank God I have a 99% American audience cause the rest of this world is sick of this one.  There have been a ton of songs recently trying to scramble hip-hop and EDM together, but this song sounds more natural than any of them.  Included Whiiite favorite Miami 2 Ibiza.

DL:  Tinie Tempah – Pass Out (320 kbps)

Bonus:

DL:  Swedish House Mafia x. Tinie Tempah – Miami 2 Ibiza (320 kbps)

Thirsty Thursday: Lil’ Jon

FIRST, how much respect do you have for Lil’ Jon?  How many equally talent-less producers completely fall out of the game like Jermaine Dupri  or over-exert themselves like Diddy?  Lil’ Jon is humble enough to know that his marginal benefit for music is exactly equal to Fatman Scoop.  That’s fine though, since Fatman Scoop is responsible for THE GREATEST PARTY SONG OF ALL TIME.  Seriously tho, how many people in music enough are humble enough to know exactly what they bring to the table, and don’t try to do one thing more?  The answer’s not surprising when 9-minute rap videos with ballerinas are considered transcendent.

Related: how fucking good is “Be Faithful“?  Everyone today thinks that more is better, but it leads to messy and arbitrary mashups that are better known for their notoriety than their energy.  The best part about Be Faithful is that nobody knows any of the songs it samples anymore but it’s still a club staple.  The lesson as always: screaming all over the track is always the best choice.

SECOND, I realize this Sidney Samson remix is pretty much the same song as “Amsterdam,” but it’s still amazing.  I have every intention of milking this Dutch house movement until it makes people prefer sitting at home quietly to doing drugs and hearing 800 siren stabs in a shade under three minutes.  This song reminds me of the “songs” I used to make in Fruity Loops in 2005.  If only I had access to Lil’ Jon.  God bless the Netherlands and the internet.

Damn, I had no idea what I was going to do for Thursday Thursday until about 3 A.M. this morning when I stumbled across these fuckers.  Thank god the internet is a cesspool of ignorance.  If I had an “Intelligent Monday” series, it would be deaded in two weeks or so.

ANYWAY, when my children are looking back at this era of music, I hope it resonates as fondly as 80’s metal (should).  Some music should exist solely for the purpose of getting happy-drunk at 81 Linden and throwing your friends into furniture, and I never made the connection before I heard this remix of Metallica just now.  House music celebrates all of the decadence and cheap thrills that Ratt and Motley Crue did.  One of my favorite stories from 80’s metal involves Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine, who purposely didn’t put the band’s best songs on their debut album because it was on an independent label and he (rightfully) assumed the band would be on a major label for their second album.  Naturally, they went and spent half of the recording budget for the debut album on drugs and naturally, they went on to sell about 15 million records.  Good times were had by all.  Enjoy.

Thirsty Thursday: Skrillex

The other day, I was discussing the (awful) new Britney song and I said that Americans need to start outsourcing all of their beats to Europeans, fuck Dr. Luke.  IMagine how flooded the streets would be with the “Britney Does Sweden” mixtape???  ANYWAY, I retort all of that.  Like historically proven, America is in fact the best country in the world and will capitalize on all of your ideas until they become obsolete.  You had your Deadmau5 and your Rusko and I bet you felt really cool man, but then Skrillex came and blew those motherfuckers out of the water.  I’m writing this with a tear in my eye – if I paid for page customization I would put American flags all over this motherfucker.  God bless.

What kind of music does Skrillex make?  Some kind of over-the-top combination of house and dubstep, with chopped-up vocals and abrasive basslines.  Outrageous, in only the way that America can do it.  I’ve said before that I’m against throwing random basslines everywhere and calling it dubstep, but Skrillex’s music is so fun that I could care less.  Purists will probably hate it which means it’s even more worth listening to.  Can’t believe I haven’t heard of this guy until now, I think he’s gonna make a lot of noise soon.  Enjoy.
