Deadmau5 – 4 x 4 = 12 (aka How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Start Being Pretentious About House Music)

December 2, 2010

Deadmau5 is ultra focused in his marketing.  If he chose some dumb European name like DJ Sin or something, nobody would care about his music.  But once we all that dumb sorority ‘OH IT’S PRONOUNCED MOUSE” moment, we were hooked.  Add the stupid mask he wears, and hipsters have been frothing at the mouth for his new album.  I have nothing against him – Ghosts N Stuff and Strobe were fire, but the rest of For Lack of a Better Name was pretty weak to me.  That said, I still have his discography (obvi), and he has a lot of solid remixes and ventured into a lot of different genres – I’ll make posts about those at some point.

I feel that while this album is OK, it’s not as groundbreaking as everyone would want to make you think.  Most of the vocals are terrible, and the “OMG DEADMAU5 IS DOING DUBSTEP” parts are more noteworthy for the fact he’s doing dubstep than the music itself.  I did enjoy “Get In The Cart, Pig”, which is unfinished but has potential as the next Strobe aka the “Yo we need to stop talking and think about things for the next 9 minutes” track.   Here is the banger “A City In Florida” and album closer “Everything Before”, along with a stream of “Get In The Cart, Pig.”  Enjoy.
