Too $hort x J Dilla = Life Is…Too Dilla

January 7, 2011

Funny story: I was listening to Tom Waits this morning and found this gem right beneath it on Itunes.  Made by Okayplayer’s buildingblock, this completely left-field mini mixtape combines the affable pimping of Bay Area legend Too $hort with the underground funk of late Whiiite legend J Dilla.  If you find yourself enjoying this: congratulations, you’re probably a hip-hop nerd.  Not your fault though, how can you not enjoy the timeless charm of Too $hort?  If rappers were unabashedly enjoying themselves as much as he did in his prime, maybe hip-hop wouldn’t be so dead in 2011.  Is that you still listening to Fancy?  Real talk: besides Common, Too $hort’s better than any rapper Dilla produced for anyway.  Enjoy!
