Is Carmelo “Marbury 2.0”? #No.

March 21, 2011

The New York Knickerbockers are now 7-8 since the blockbuster Carmelo Anthony deal, and the list of players who have bodied them this season reads like a who’s who of D-Leaguers and role players (see below). A few people think the Knicks are mailing it in because they don’t like Mike D’Antoni as their coach (ridiculous). Some reasonable and logical folks think they just need time to gel as a team (bingo!). Many are hopping off the bandwagon, so this is the perfect time to get on board if you haven’t already. [If you don’t think this team will give the Celtics, Heat, Bulls, whoever a scare in the first round, I don’t value your sports opinion.]  List of nerds after the jump.

  1. I feel like Carmelo will be at his best only when he has a coach and/or star player that will bust his ass like the ’08 Olympic team (Coach K/Kobe). Don’t think D’Antoni is that coach, nor Amar’e is that star player. I’m always down for firing D’Antoni (I think the primary purpose of hiring him in the first place was to get star players). Not sure what coach we could get tho I wouldn’t mind getting Mike Brown as an assistant (or some defensive specialist).

  2. I agree, I think D’Antoni is a terrible coach in general, and I don’t think they’ll win a ‘ship with him at the helm. But to suggest the players are mailing it in to get him fired is asinine. Melo and Amar’e specialize at not playing defense, why would they want someone to come in and tell them what’s good?
