My Favorite Tracks of the Past Week: 1/23/2011

January 23, 2011

Why are people invested in art?  culture?  sports?

Would you listen to the Kanye West album if you were the only person in the world who could listen to it?  Would you watch the Yankees if you were the only person in the world watching them?

Would you listen to music with no context?  Would you listen to music if there was no recorded history of it whatsoever?

I suppose the question I’m asking is: what’s more important, the art itself or the context of art?  The film as an individual experience, or as a social cue?

Do you think people appreciated music more before the advent of the internet?  How about sports?

JUST SOME THOUGHTS FROM YA BOY.  Dope essay coming soon?  Anyways, jams for the week:

Cassius – I Love You So (DJVC Remix)

David Bowie – A New Career In a New Town

Temper Trap – Sweet Disposition (Axwell & Dirty South Remix)

Daft Punk – Derezzed (Pink is Punk ‘RETRON’ mix)

The Roots – The Seed/Melting Pot/Web Live

Also highly recommend The Roots’ live set in Germany.
